More sustainably packaged, more floral happiness
Reducing plastic usage throughout the entire supply chain is one of our three sustainable themes. This is an ambition that our entire team and partners work towards every day. Since 2018, we have been inventorying, measuring, and recording our plastic usage, and we are now working on permanent solutions to genuinely reduce plastic consumption. It is an intensive but worthwhile process.
How we plan to achieve this
You might think: the most sustainable packaging is no packaging at all. However, that's not entirely true. A product without packaging can get damaged before it reaches the consumer, which would make the entire production effort go to waste. That’s why our goal is to evaluate every product we bring to the market and ask: is packaging necessary? And if so, what is the most sustainable solution?
For example, by using thinner and shorter flower sleeves, we’ve already achieved about a 15% reduction in plastic use. But of course, that’s not all we’re doing. Did you know that we are increasingly using flower and plant sleeves made partly from recycled plastic? This means that only a small amount of new plastic is needed for these packaging materials.
We’re also reviewing our transport packaging and exploring ways to make it more sustainable. Reusable packaging is an interesting option, but only if it doesn’t mean transporting a lot of empty space on return trips. That’s why we are seeking solutions that take up less space when empty. Together with our partners, we are constantly searching for the best solution for our product, our customers, and our planet.
